"Clueless Against Spinners": Pant Faces Major Criticism After DPL Debut

Indian cricket team wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant scored 35 off 32 balls for Purani Dilli 6 in the Delhi Premier League (DPL) match against South Delhi Superstarz on Saturday. While the pace of the innings was not similar to Pant's general approach, his struggles against spin drew major criticism on social media. Pant's knock had 4 fours and one six but ended up with a strike rate of just 109. Pant had a good showing at the T20 World Cup 2024 but was unable to play big knocks - something that the fans pointed out as the expectation was for him to score big at the top of the innings.

Before the match, the left-handed wicketkeeper-batter was felicitated by the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) president Rohan Jaitley and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) vice-president Rajeev Shukla for his fine performances in India's ICC T20 World Cup triumph.

In eight innings of the competition, Pant scored 171 runs at an average of 24.42, with the best score of 42. In testing conditions of the Nassau County Stadium in the USA, Pant played some of the tournament's finest, useful knocks by an Indian player. He was also electric behind the stumps, taking 13 catches and doing a stumping to finish with 14 dismissals, most by a keeper in a single T20 WC.

The inaugural edition of the Delhi Premier League (DPL) T20 was officially declared open after a glitzy opening ceremony held at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday.

The event was a grand affair, with music sensation Badshah and actress Sonam Bajwa stealing the limelight and keeping the crowd glued to their seats.

The opening gala was attended by DDCA's top management, franchise team owners, players, and staff from all participating men's and women's teams.

T20 WC Live: Netherlands Face Sri Lanka In A Must-Win Game For Dutch

Sri Lanka vs Netherlands LIVE Updates, T20 World Cup 2024: Netherlands may be out of the 2024 T20 World Cup even before their match against Sri Lanka ends, if Bangladesh beat Nepal. However, the Dutch need to beat Sri Lanka by a healthy scoreline to keep any hopes of qualifying to the Super 8 stage alive. The game also offers Sri Lanka a chance to get their first win, in what has been a hugely disappointing tournament for the 2014 champions. They would likely finish bottom of their group if they fail to win. "Because Of Harsh Steps Taken...": Jay Shah's Blunt Take On Iyer, Kishan

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has made it mandatory for all the centrally contracted players, who are fit and off national duty, to participate in domestic cricket. Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer are the ones who have already been at the receiving end of the Board's fury for not playing domesic cricket when possible. The two players were excluded from the list of central contracts that was announced by BCCI earlier this year as they missed out on domestic games despite being fit and also away from international circuit. Both Iyer and Kishan are part of the upcoming Duleep Trophy that is set to start on September 5. BCCI secretary Jay Shah has said that the two players have taken the decision as a result of BCCI's harsh action. "If you look Duleep Trophy squad, apart from Rohit and Virat rest are going to play. It's because of the harsh steps I have taken, Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan are playing Duleep Trophy," Jay Shah told Times of India .
