Lucknow Super Giants Team Meets UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath

Ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) team met Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday. The meeting, attended by team owner Sanjiv Goenka and captain Rishabh Pant, was a courtesy visit where the Chief Minister extended his best wishes for the upcoming IPL season. During the meeting, CM Yogi Adityanath praised Lucknow Super Giants' past performances, highlighting the team's talent, discipline, and sportsmanship. He expressed confidence that the players would give their best and strive to lift the IPL 2025 trophy. “Lucknow Super Giants have showcased remarkable performances in previous seasons. This team represents dedication, discipline, and the true spirit of the game. I am hopeful that this season, too, the players will demonstrate their skills and make the state proud,” the Chief Minister said.

Several key players, coaches, and management officials were present at the meeting, including Rishabh Pant (Captain), Aryan Juyal, Himmat Singh, Abdul Samad, other players and coaching staff.

LSG are set to play their first match of IPL 2025 season against Delhi Capitals, a team which Pant captained previously, on March 24 at the ACAVDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam.

LSG reached the playoffs of the IPL 2022 and 2023 seasons, before exiting in the Eliminator twice. In IPL 2024, LSG finished at seventh place in the points table.

Pant, the left-handed wicketkeeper-batter, became the most expensive player in IPL's history when LSG acquired him for Rs 27 crore at the mega auction last year.

He will now be LSG's fourth captain in their history of playing in the IPL after KL Rahul, Nicholas Pooran and Krunal Pandya.

This will be the second IPL team Pant will be captaining after leading Delhi Capitals (DC). Pant had been DC's captain from 2021 to 2024 editions of the IPL, barring the 2023 season, which he missed due to recovery from various injuries sustained in a car accident in December 2022.

Having consistently generated speed in excess of 150kmph in his maiden IPL earlier this year, Mayank had drawn the attention of the cricketing world before a side strain ruled him out of the tournament. Usually, one has to prove fitness in domestic cricket to be considered for national selection but the 22-year-old has been fast-tracked into the side considering his special talent. The series against Bangladesh will be a test of his fitness and temperament. It is yet to be figured if he can display the same accuracy and control that he exhibited in the IPL. Besides Mayank, fellow Delhi pacer Harshit Rana and all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy could also make their India debut over the course of the series. Nitish was picked for the Zimbabwe tour post the T...

PCB Not Happy With Pak Star Over Social Media Post On Babar Snub: Report

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is not pleased that Fakhar Zaman questioned the selection panel's decision to sideline Babar Azam from the Test side. The panel dropped former captain Babar Azam when they announced the squad for the remaining two Tests against England in Multan and Rawalpindi. Zaman took to X to question the decision, inviting the ire of the PCB. "The top board officials are not pleased with the tweet sent out by Fakhar and relevant persons are having a word with him about it," a well-informed PCB source said. "It's concerning to hear suggestions about dropping Babar Azam. India didn't bench Virat Kohli during his rough stretch between 2020 and 2023, when he averaged 19.33, 28.21, and 26.50, respectively. "If we are considering sidelining our premier batsman, arguably the best Pakistan has ever produced, it could send a deeply negative message across the team. There is still time to avoid pressing the panic button; we should focus on sa...

"Gambhir, Agarkar Must Have 'Tough Chat' With Bumrah": Ex-SA Star's Advice

Jasprit Bumrah 's participation in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is still not a guarantee, with India's pace spearhead still serving his five-week rest tenure as he attempts to recover from a back issue. Bumrah suffered the injury in the final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. In light of the situation, former South African pacer Vernon Philander has advised that it may be wiser to manage Bumrah's workload and not make him play all of India's games, particularly in "less important matches". Philander emphasized that the team management, presently headed by chief selector Ajit Agarkar and head coach Gautam Gambhir , may need to have a tough chat with Bumrah on resting him for some games. "I think it's more about how the Indian management manages him. They have to manage his workload in between tournaments," Philander said in a media interaction during the SA20 tournament. "I would say, you perhaps want to look at playing him in...
